Bio of Martha Spore Timpani / Percussion I studied percussion at State University of NY, at Fredonia, with Theodore Frazeur in the late 50’s and early 60’s. During those college years, I had the opportunity to play with the Erie Philharmonic on several occasions. After college, I primarily taught instrumental music in grade school, and played in several college and community orchestras close to the areas that I lived as I moved around. Eventually I married and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where we resided for 25 years. Again, while living there, I was involved in several community orchestras along with my husband, Dudley. During this time, I had the opportunity to study with Peggy Lucchesi until her death. To my credit, I was called on as an extra hand to play percussion with the Women’s Philharmonic, a world-renowned orchestra, as well as the primary timpanist/percussionist with the Berkeley Opera, Berkeley Contemporary Opera, and North Bay Opera. I also played with several Municipal Bands during the summer months. These are just a few of the many opportunities I had as an independent contract percussionist. My motto was, have drums – will travel. |
