Bio of Jim Hand Percussion I started in music in the fourth grade learning the piano. In seventh grade, I took up percussion playing in not only the school bands but also the Owens-Illinois Glass Company's concert band (located in New Jersey). Here I learned how to really play the snare drum from veteran drummers. Summers I would play in concert bands and orchestras at a college in New Jersey. Two years was spent as a percussionist with The University of Arizona Marching Band and U of A Concert Band. Twenty-plus years I have played tympani and mallets with the award winning Sabbar Shriners Concert Band (Tucson) who competed against the likes of the Los Angles Shriners Concert Band (and won!). Besides the Shriners, I currently play with the Sonoran Winds Concert Band performing on the tympani and mallets. Playing with all of these groups, including the Old Pueblo Brass Band, is simply a joy of life. I thank God for giving me the gift of music so that others may enjoy its sound. |
