Bio of Nancy Cowan Eb Tuba / Euphonium Born and bred in Arkansas (1974), taught myself guitar at an early age, joined band in 7th grade on baritone and went to tuba a year later. Also played percussion when the need arose.Graduated HS at Yellville-Summit (1992) and got to go to college at the University of Central Arkansas on a scholarship for tuba. After that I was lucky enough to get a graduate assistantship at the University of Arkansas where I played euphonium, tuba, and trombone. Taught middle school band for one year in Louisiana before joining the Army as a tuba player. Did three tours of duty, ending at Ft. Huachuca, and decided not to re-enlist again! Found my calling in elementary education and am now finishing up Arizona Certification for elementary education with a music endorsement, thanks to the GI Bill, Pima Community College, and the University of Arizona. My first brass band experience was with the Solid Brass Band of Little Rock, AR, back in 96 or 97. Thankfully I discovered and joined the Old Pueblo Brass Band in 2007. I'm glad to be back in a brass band again. My first concert w/OPBB was at the Presbeterian Church in May 2008, I think. Currently I have a teaching position (general music) at Continental Elementary in Green Valley. |
