Cornet

Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, I began playing cornet in the 4th grade. Switching to trumpet during high school, I was selected to participate in several regional honors bands and spent part of one summer at the Interlochen Music Camp. College studies focused on a mathematics degree but I continued playing with local groups whose musical tastes were a sampling of rock, soul & blues. Following graduation in 1971, my career, raising a family, and an MBA degree became the new priorities and various opportunities resulted in numerous relocations.

It wasn’t until a move to Phoenix in 1993 that an opportunity to play again regularly presented itself. I joined the precursor organization to Tempe’s Arizona Wind Symphony in 1995 and later became the principal trumpet. In 1999, an opportunity to return to my instrumental roots (i.e. the cornet) appeared and I became a member of the Salt River Bass, Arizona’s premier concert brass band.

In early 2005 a change in employment necessitated a move to Tucson and a sad departure from two excellent musical entities. Fortunately, I discovered that my new home was also blessed with several long-standing instrumental traditions. In late 2005 I joined Laszlo Veres’ Arizona Symphonic Winds (ASW) and continue to play trumpet there. As part of the ASW, I met Barbara Chinworth who, after learning of my Salt River Brass experience, invited me to join the Old Pueblo Brass Band during 2006.

I appreciate your interest in the Old Pueblo Brass Band and sincerely hope you enjoy the musical diversity offered in our performances.
