Bio of Jim Andrada Eb Tuba I grew up in the Boston area and was introduced to brass instruments in the 4th grade. I was one of the biggest kids in the school and one day I was summoned to the music building and told that I was a tuba player because I was big enough to carry it. At which point they handed me a beat up Eb tuba which I dragged home on foot.Despite the somewhat brusque introduction, I've stayed with it. I played all through high school and college, where i was fortunate enough to have played under Leroy Anderson, a Harvard Band alumnus who would occasionally come back to conduct at our concerts just for fun. After college I played in a variety of bands until work and business travel got to the point of taking up too much time. About 10 years ago I went to a band reunion and which motivated me to start playing again after a 25 year break. I've been playing with the Old Pueblo Brass Band since 2006 Outside of the music, I majored in Chemistry and Physics, worked for the USAF research labs Project Space Track and later joined IBM as a programmer. After several technical and management positions I was assigned to IBM Japan for six years where I met my wife, a former concert pianist. After returning to the US we lived near San Francisco before moving to Tucson a couple of years ago. I'm still working as a business development consultant for a major Japanese computer and communications company. |
